Welcome ! |
The Corporation of the Township of East Luther Grand Valley is the result of an amalgamation effective January 1,1995. It is comprised of the former Township of East Luther, a rural farming area and the former Village of Grand Valley, an urban area supported by four surrounding rural townships. The Township is truly nature's playground with the Luther Marsh and its wild life. The marsh covers 13,000 acres with a 3500 acre lake within it. The picturesque Grand River recently designated as a Heritage River flows from the northern boundary serenely winding through the farm country and village. It provides the setting of beautiful scenery and a peaceful existence in which our citizens feel relaxed and secure.
The Grand Valley B.I.A. is striving to enhance the urban centre within the municipality to encourage the expansion and retention of the retail and related business core. Recently, the Upper Grand Watershed Committee formed, working jointly with surrounding municipalities, the Chamber of Commerce, the Grand River Conservation Authority and a consultant to develop an Eco Development Strategy that will enhance and expand the well known "Luther Marsh and Upper Grand River Watershed". Another group of people have volunteered their time and effort to start the Upper Grand Trailway committee to develop a multi use trail on the old CP rail line in an attempt to link it to the existing trails around and throughout the Luther Marsh.
In an attempt to accommodate new development, we are in the process of updating our Official Plan and Zoning By-law so lands can be studied and designated for future development We are also undertaking an EA Study of the Waste Water Treatment plant. We are conducting this study to provide for present and future growth. Even though we are small in size at present we have local soccer, baseball, hockey, figure skating, air cadets, guides, scouts and dance classes and several service clubs. A local school, an arena, medical centre, parks, library and firehall round out our Municipal services.
The Municipality's north boundary is Highway #89 and the southern most is County Road #109 (former Highway #9) divided centrally by County Road #25 (former Highway #25) thus providing easy access to major centres.
So pay us a visit and see for yourself what a wonderful community we have.
